Loyola Ramblers show no mercy in Wheaton
Updated:  11/15/2009 at 7:43 PM
Last weekend the Loyola Ramblers showed no mercy while shattering the Wheaton College Thunder on the score sheet. On Friday November 13th Wheaton College hosted the Ramblers at Center Ice of Dupage, but were shown no gratitude for the event. Friday's hockey game was a demonstration of purely dominate hockey on the Rambler's side, especially from the Rambler's top line which was lead by Michael Bangs (8 goals, 3 assists). The top line combined for a total of 10 goals in the weekend's match up with David Katz assisting 9 of them. Although the Ramblers kept pounding away at the Thunder's net, there were a few good chances for the Thunder in their offensive zone. Junior goaltender Adam Sabh had to come up big for the Rambler's in a few instances to preserve his shut out when the Ramblers defense lost focus on their positioning and game play. The sealing of the Ramblers victory came early in the 2nd period when grad-student Jon Tlusty came flying off of the bench on a quick change catching the Thunder's defense by surprise, and stripping the goaltender of all dignity with beautiful puck placement right over his glove to score his prettiest goal the season. That goal put the Ramblers up 6-0, and edging them to a safe distance from any kind of comeback by the Thunder. Despite the huge sway in momentum in favor of the Ramblers, the Thunder turned things around at the beginning of the Saturday match up. The Thunder came out flying in desperation to get an early jump on the hubristic Ramblers, which is exactly what they did by scoring the first goal of the evening only 5 minutes in. This acted as quite a sobering slap to Loyola and the Ramblers turned things around by ending the first period up 3-1 as opposed to the night before leaving the first up 4-0. The rest of the game was an even sway of offensive rushes for both teams ending in the final score of 8-4 favoring the Ramblers.
Next weekend the Ramblers look to take on Northern Illinois University in both teams first ever franchise meeting.
