In its first annual Sport Club Awards Banquet, Loyola University Chicago took time to honor and recognize the outstanding achievements of all the club sports this year. The men's hockey team was represented by President Ryan Khalil, Vice President Andrew Hadley, Treasurer Dominic Marcus, Scheduling Director Pat Myers and looked forward to what would be an eventful night for the club.
The men's hockey team had four nominations coming into the event, the most by any of the club sports, for Team of the Year, Officer of the Year, Executive Board of the Year, and Philanthropy Club of the Year.
Ryan Khalil took home the title of Officer of the Year for his outstanding dedication to the team and commitment to its successes both on and off the ice. He made sure that all the forms and paperwork were submitted on time, arranged travel, managed the budget, and ensured that all university rules and regulations were being met.
The team was also awarded Philanthropy Club of the Year for their work with Hockey is for Everyone, Loyola Gives, and Relay for Life. Hockey is for Everyone is an NHL-sponsored program in which players can try hockey for free to see if they are interested, this is something that the team has participated in for several years now and wants to continue its involvement with this great program. Loyola Gives is a program run by Loyola University Chicago during which the university sponsors families in need with food, gifts, and clothes around the holidays. This year, the hockey team donated $500 for the cause, the most by any club team. Finally, this year was the first year that the team participated in Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research and treatment and exceeded their goal of $250.
We are extremely proud of our team and are looking forward to what we can accomplish next season!
